
A small indicator of the powerful, though often minute, impact of the movies on the psyche: a Fed Ex package just arrived for my wife. When I saw the word "FRAGILE" on the side of the box, I sub-vocalized it as "fra-geel-ay."
Why? Because that's how "The Old Man" (Darren McGavin) in Bob Clark's A Christmas Story (1983) pronounces it that way when he get his infamous leg lamp in the mail.
